Reno

We are headed northwest from Vegas so we decided to stop in Reno for a week. The drive from Vegas to Reno is almost 500 miles of nothing but desert! There are a few small towns (including one with wild donkeys!) but not much else. We did stop overnight at Tonopah RV Park. This was a great place to stop since it is about halfway between the 2 cities and it is easy access with level, pull-through sites. And there was a pizza shop nearby that delivered!

Then it was back on the road to Reno River West RV Park. This is a really nice small RV park about a mile from the downtown Reno area. Luckily our site was pull through and easy to get in to. There were a couple of nice places to eat within walking distance. There was a cute bar called Shanty Dolan’s about a half mile from the RV Park and they occasionally have food trucks. Since we love food trucks we had to do dinner there one night! And Gloria’s Cafe about a mile in the other direction had a nice breakfast.

We did some exploring around the area, including a day trip to Virginia City which is a neat old mining town with some interesting historical buildings and quirky shops.

We also got together with John and Juliet, some friends we had met last year, and went to the National Automobile Museum. This museum houses an amazing collection of vehicles, including one of the first ‘RV’s! After that we visited a casino and couldn’t resist playing a little roulette – and we doubled our money!! Okay, we started with ten dollars and quit when we had twenty, but that’s double, right?!? We also saw a good stand up comedy show!
